white bear Sharon,
Thank you so much for inviting me to partake in all the love that flows from your eternal spring. I am honored to share my few skills, knowledge, and love with all your community members. I'm a little pressed for time this morning, so I've decided to just paste my latest overview of the Perpetual Harvest Greenhouse System (PHGS), because it includes contact info, a brief explanation, and a few links to other interesting ideas and green technology available on the Internet. I am happy and grateful for the opportunity to share the knowledge that Spirit has gifted me.
Peace,
chris
I represent a group of organic pioneers who plan to make the development of sustainable communities a Grass Roots Movement in the next ten years. The first cornerstone in the foundation of a sustainable community should be a constant supply of healthy food. If you will take a few minutes from your busy schedule I will prove to you that we have developed a year round organic food production system that can put fresh, nutrient dense, organic produce in the mouth of every citizen on Planet Earth, 365 days a year.
My name is Chris Marron, and I have a passion for controlled environment greenhouse farming. I have been researching organic food production for the past 25 years. My late wife and I started small with a desire to feed our family the best food we could grow, and over the years we studied everything we could find about organic farming, and eventually developed a unique system that we call "Perpetual Harvest Greenhouse System" (PHGS). I have tried to bring this system into the public view for the last ten years but, until recently I found mostly deaf ears, no matter how loud I yelled.
I am grateful that others have also been trying to change the way we feed ourselves, and now there is proof to my theory. Please visit:
http://tinyurl.com/59hrtt It will describe an $80,000,000 greenhouse complex that encompasses 10 football fields (81 acres), that operates year-round in England. This greenhouse is only one of ten that will be in place when the construction phase of the project is completed. The only real difference between this project and PHGS is that we grow nutrient-dense, organic produce.
Columbia University is operating a Website called: verticalfarm.com . They are confident that 30-48 floor, high rise buildings are a viable option for growing produce. On one of this site's pages they quote a Cornell University Website which states, that they have produced 23 times more food per acre than commercial California farmers average and they used 30 times less water per pound to irrigate in their greenhouse system which is similar to PHGS. Are you aware of an electric generator that uses 195 degreeF hot water for fuel.
http://www.utcpower.com/fs/com/bin/fs_com_Page/0,11491,0167,00.html You can examine this wonderful new system in use at Chena Hot Springs in Alaska.
http://www.chenahotsprings.com/index.php?id=90 They are using the geothermal energy from the hot spring to power, heat/cool the whole resort, including their greenhouse which operates year round. We can use solar thermal techniques to get our water hot enough to operate this fueless power plant, here in our warmer climate and places that don't have geothermal resources at their disposal.
As we worked to get all the bugs out of this system we became aware that PHGS is also the answer to the question; how do we devise a plan to put to good use the single greatest, unused, natural resource we have today? Of course I am speaking of the incredibly large, volunteer workforce that is available. In the United States and beyond, there are millions of unwed mothers, students, seniors, disabled folks, prisoners, and church and community organizations. Most of these people find themselves caught in a "Catch 22". That is, they lose a dollar from their entitlements for every dollar they earn doing part time work. Since organic foods have become so overpriced, these folks almost never get any. So, I am confident that many people will be happy to work for a basket full of fresh, ripe produce instead of a paycheck.
More importantly, I believe that students should be given the chance to put organic produce on their cafeterias' menus while they learn the very best way to provide good health for themselves and families. America has become stagnant and unhealthy, because we ceased to be the most productive country in the world. If the people of the USA and beyond will just take a look at what the people of Cuba have done with their economy, just by localizing food production, we will also have arrived at the right path to economic recovery. After energy production, food generates more money than any other industry on Earth. If we can keep a large percentage of that capital in our local areas then our economy will also thrive.
We took the best from:
Greenhouse Technology.
Hydroponics Technology.
Permaculture Principles.
Organic Principles.
Sustainable Heating and Cooling System Technology.
100% Natural Composting Principles.
And the production of super high energy water, just like it came from a thunderstorm with hundreds of lightning strikes.

P.S. An incredibly efficient biofuel source description just arrived in my mailbox. Please take a look, this system will make cold season growing even more viable as a business, because I am confident that the algae production will work well as a living shade cloth for the greenhouses.
